Ann Colbert grew up in Michigan in a small town where prisons were the local industry.  Her father was  a warden so the family lived in a home on prison grounds.  She attended Michigan State University for medical school and moved to Rochester New York for her family medicine residency.  Her path led to Kentucky as a requirement for her National Health Service Scholarship.  She worked as family doctor treating families and delivering babies in eastern Kentucky in Olive HIll and Morehead.  After nearly 20 years, she became board certified in Palliative Care and Hospice after a training program in Wales and helped to start the  St. Claire Palliative Care Program in Morehead in 2002.   She was the physician member of a transdisciplinary team who cared for seriously ill  patients in the office, at home and in hospital.    In 2016, she moved to Belize to be a long term medical volunteer and was the Medical Director of Hillside Health Care International for  18 months.  She has just returned to the US and is now pursuing her Masters of Public Health from Western Kentucky.
